So if you want to see your sister, your mother, your daughter, your son, your granny, your uncle living less than what an animal lives like....then send them to a psychiatric institute. After a few too many drugs, electroshocks or a labotomy to the brain....you end up with someone who can't function any more. One day I saw a bag lady in lady who was in such a horrible, degraded condition with an ugly wig perched on her head. I thought "Wow you are so degraded". This woman's head whirled around to me and she started to chase me down the street in fury. She was so highly aware that she picked up on my thoughts towards her. Highly aware people can fall into the wrong hands and end up like that woman. That is when I realized all of these people were once somebodies child, a beautiful baby. I became intensely interested in who are these people and what the hell happened. People don't turn out like that unless they are destroyed by someone. I want to be normal and eat normally, have energy and exercise. The nurses are drugging me down, and I have no energy, so I sometimes end up prioriting getting more sleep instead to eat. Kayla Corcoran I don't know, but I'd like to think so. I've only posted the name of one psychiatrists, but feel pretty confident it's justified. There's a lot of factors involved. I wonder though, because so much wrong goes on, and it's acceptable. The laws themselves aren't are allowing this. They go beyond those even. I've had a doctor pretty much admit he would lie under oath. Another flat out lied, and just acted lie he was above it. Got me appointed a guardian, and I had to receive his report by a public defender. He said I had an intellectual disability bases on previous testing because of a DSM change. I don't see these catgories as valid. However, that's another story. However, to have a doctor rub it in my face he can lie, and people will take his word. To have a doctor, not only be havine my rights be taken away, but have to find stuff out from public defenders. To be told that he doesn't want to talk about labels when I ask about a diagnosis he decided to make, to get me a gaurdian, like he didn't have a choice. No, I'm the one who didn't have a choice, and didn't want to talk about labells with him. Kevin L Keough With considerable hesitation, I introduce myself and encourage people to watch a documentary of my primary mentor, Dr. R.D. Laing, a Scottish psychiatrist who made the most consequential contribution to psychiatry in the 20th century. In a word, he said that psychiatry largely failed or harmed people. However, he suggested psychiatry was about a service to the human soul that required love to be healed. Though he is called the father of the anti-psychiatry movement he disavowed this title. Arguably, no person-alive or dead-within or outside of psychiatry has done more to give voice to those who suffer from horrible agony and have suffered at the hands of mental health professionals. I am a 58 yo clinical psychologist who has worked in the field, on inpatient and outpatient basis, and been an inpatient myself who received 26 ECT's in 2.5 months having fallen into a stuporous dangerous depression. Curiously, I've found that most folks in this group respond quite negatively to anyone with a slightly different view of psychiatry except the 100000% hatred and contempt for all psychiatry. R.D. Laing refused to succumb to this extreme, himself. He shared a same mistrust and fear of the psychiatric establishment that ran far deeper than most I've known. He knew the field from all sides. Perhaps it is worth reflecting on the idea that the same man that created an open space for those harmed by psychiatry by detailing the terrible aspects of psychiatry. No one has been more critical of psychiatry with as much evidence and experience than Laing. I've never known a psychiatrist with more compassion or understanding. He would fully support the basic purpose of this group though he might encourage a bit more tolerance of others whose views might differ a little from the mainstream group view---especially if they acknowledged the innumerable horrific stories that bring people into a generally welcoming community like this one. What began for me as a way to show honor and respect to shock victims and survivors begins August 16, 2015. My vision is simple monthly candlelight vigils across the state where I can read aloud names of people and remember them. Maybe ring a small bell. Maybe some gentle music. This is a work in progress.
