Very well written, in excellent vivid style, peppered with powerful explanatory metaphors and bright epithets. The books title is "Young psychiatrist training", Dr. I. Bekker is the author. But what is writing that gifted writer? First of all he strongly recommends young clinicians to watch patients' eyes with great attention, repeating ancient banality 'Eyes is the gate of a soul'. In other words this doc calls his collages to evaluate people by their ocular expressions. He claims that this is a good method to know real mental and emotional state of a person. Psychiatrist even adds that words are less significant than eyes of a patient. And... gosh in a couple of chapters he says that it is impossible to diagnose mental disorder by eyes gazing only! He doesn't only contradicts to himself. He calls so called medics, the psychiatrists, to rely in diagnosing on such a controversial method as ocular expression evaluation. I repeat this author believes that it is possible to 'read' someone's mind staring into one's eyes. No wonder that a few pages later he mocks at his colleague who considered schizophrenia to be the dysfunction of the particular brain area. Reading this rubbish I'm starting to respect Dr. Szasz's comparison of psychiatry with inquisition. Both used non-scientific methods, both are grounded on opinions not facts. I'm quite sure that inquisitors 'saw' imps and the glare of hell fire in the eyes of their victims. This is simply disgusting, because it is not substantiated according to modern medical standards, and this is another evidence that psychiatry is not a science. But I use to be fiercely competitive. Then psychiatry got involved in my life. How many of you have had to deal with the outrageous weight gain that comes with being on psychiatric drugs? They're on the biggest paychecks and go on holiday to places like Dubai every two weeks. They don't give a shit about the patients. They only do it for the money. Plus they were only too happy when I got sectioned. Never once did they try to get me out. Think they know best. My sister really revelled in it. Never have they ever once given a shit about my feelings or desires from a psychological standpoint and even when talking to them abou popular psychological theories or neuroscience they just tell me to shut up.
